The Blue Alliance

Tips and tutorials for everyone interested in competitive robotics.

Episode 1: FRC Electrical System

In the first episode of The Blue Alliance we start off with a broad view of a key FIRST system. We give you an overview of the electrical system used to power and control FIRST robots. From the battery to the joysticks, each part of the system is explained. Watch to learn a bit more about Victors, Spikes, the RC, and more.

Since this is the first episode, here is how all of this works. Below, you see download links for the episode in three different flavors, as well as the show notes PDF. You will need Quicktime 7 to play the iPod version (which you can also play on your PC), and anything that can decode xVid for the higher quality versions (VLC Player works great). The show notes contain more detailed information about the topics covered in the episode, such as illustrations, links to other web pages, and up-close photos of systems we covered. There is also a flash embed of the video, so you don’t even have to download it to watch it. If you subscribe to the iTunes or RSS feeds, you will get the iPod compatible version of the show, but we are working to make feeds for the higher quality versions. If you have any other questions about how we deliver our content, e-mail us at questions@thebluealliance.net and let us know.

In this episode’s show notes package, we’ve assembled a slew of websites to help introduce you to the electrical system and give more detailed explanations of some of the more complex components. Click the PDF of the show notes below and check them out.
